CUTEK® Extreme CD50 helps to alleviate the challenging conditions facing timber on coastal properties. The intense heat, strong-salt winds and high humidity is a recipe for deteriorating and rotting wood. BKK Architect’s Split House utilised CUTEK® Extreme CD50 to combat these conditions and protect the beauty of their chosen timber.
Artfully nestled in the sloping landscaping, large glass windows overlooking Port Phillip Bay in Victoria offer engagement with surrounds. Utilised for its warmth and tactile quality, wood was used extensively in both the interior and exterior.
Silvertop Ash, pre-coated with CUTEK® Extreme CD50, was chosen as the exterior cladding and decking for its longevity and aesthetic qualities. In line with the design directive, CUTEK® Extreme CD50 allows the exterior timbers to age naturally, greying off over time to further embed the house within its surrounds. Showcasing the natural variances of grain and colour, CUTEK® Extreme CD50 enhances the warmth and tactile characteristics of the design.
CUTEK® Extreme CD50’s inside out protection does not mask the beauty of the Silvertop Ash yet still provides the wood protection needed in this harsh environment. Even once the timber has gracefully silvered, it will be protected against gas phase moisture and improve dimensional stability.
Timber is the star of the show. Rather than compete for the spotlight, CUTEK® exterior timber oils highlight and enhance the natural beauty of wood whilst protecting it in the long-term; even in the harshest of environments.
