‘The Barn’ embraces the details of timber. The Paul Uhlmann Architects (PUA) design team used Australian hardwood extensively in the interior and exterior design to reference the rural bushland setting.
Designed to match the Australian bush backdrop, CUTEK® Extreme CD50 with a Grey Mist CUTEK® Colourtone was applied to the exterior Spotted Gum to expedite the weathered look. Clear CUTEK® Extreme CD50 will allow the exterior timber cladding to naturally grey over time, however this can be brought forward with the use a Smokey Grey or Grey Mist CUTEK® Colourtone. Despite looking weathered, the timber is powerfully protected against moisture and will improve long-term dimensional stability.
The cathedral like interior design utilises Mixed Australian Hardwoods on the walls and ceilings with reclaimed hardwood employed for the vertical and horizontal beams. In line with the specific project requirements and given the internal environment, a bespoke oil formulation was developed by the CUTEK® Lab. Adding a Grey Mist Colourtone creates unity between the different wood elements and helps to tie the project together. The natural colour variances in colour and grain are showcased, not hidden, adding depth and warmth to the home.
Our CUTEK® architect consultant has assisted the PUA team in many timber project designs. With a background in the timber and constructions industries, our Architectural Rep provides technical insight into the properties and characteristics of timber and can liaise with design teams to provide bespoke formulas and customer Colourtones. For ‘The Barn’, our assistance went beyond the specification and design phase as we were asked on site to assist the painters with coating and application method enquiries. At CUTEK® we are committed to helping our customers from project design to completion.
