CUTEK® has once again been chosen to help showcase a truly contemporary, heritage-listed attraction: Queensland’s Beenleigh Artisan Distillery.
When Australia’s oldest registered distillery built a new Visitor’s Centre in 2015, clear CUTEK® Extreme CD50 was applied to the feature exterior Ironbark cladding. The result was a distinctly modern look that embraced history, with the rich red timber cladding reminiscent of rum barrels and vats.
The combination proved so successful that Distillery management has decided to go an extra step to maintain it. Rather than let the timber age naturally, they decided to recoat using CUTEK® Extreme CD50 with a Burnt Red CUTEK® Colourtone.
As well as protecting the exterior and minimising maintenance, Distillery General Manager John Mulraney says CUTEK® has proved “to showcase the intense colour and bring out the grains in the timber finish”.
“We chose not to age the timber naturally as we felt that this would distract from the uniqueness of the award-winning building.”
After seeking the advice from the specialist CUTEK® team, a Burnt Red Colourtone was added to CUTEK® Extreme CD50 for the maintenance recoat. After an initial clean of the outer cladding, the Burnt Red Colourtoned oil was easily applied with brushes and rollers and, according to John, “bought back the original look of the timbers to perfection”.
